We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Disease Investigator to join our team at the Animal and Plant Health Agency. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will play a critical role in safeguarding animal health and welfare, protecting Great Britain from exotic notifiable diseases.
About the RoleThis is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced veterinarian to work on a wide range of tasks, including disease investigations, diagnostic sampling, and providing advice on disease control and prevention. You will have the chance to work with other veterinary professionals, participate in knowledge exchange, and influence standards of animal health and welfare.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct disease investigations in farm animals and wildlife by conducting post-mortems and diagnostic sampling.
- Obtain relevant history from vets and farmers for investigating disease and to provide data for disease surveillance.
- Use laboratory testing for diagnosis or to rule out diseases.
- Collate, report, and discuss findings with veterinary clients, farmers, and APHA colleagues.
- Provide advice on diseases and make recommendations on disease control and prevention.
- Conduct farm visits to investigate for possible new diseases, zoonoses, or potential threats to the food chain.
- A degree in Veterinary Medicine recognized in the UK.
- Registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English.
