Lead Backend Engineer - Java

At Capco, we're seeking a highly skilled Lead Backend Engineer to join our team in Edinburgh. As a key member of our engineering team, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the future of our financial services offerings.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced engineer who can lead by example, demonstrating expertise in Java 8+, SpringBoot, Gradle, Maven, Mockito, and Microservice architecture. You'll be responsible for designing and implementing modern, cloud-based platforms using best-in-class Agile methodologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Architect and implement cloud-based platforms using container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Design and implement robust security protocols to protect our clients' data
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation to ensure knowledge sharing and onboarding
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation and improvement
Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in Java development, with a strong focus on backend engineering
  • Proven expertise in SpringBoot, Gradle, Maven, Mockito, and Microservice architecture
  • Experience with cloud-based platforms, container technologies, and DevOps practices
  • Strong understanding of security protocols, including OAuth2, SAML, and encryption
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and train junior engineers
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and version control systems like Git
