About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a secondary school in Caldicot. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational needs of students, particularly those with additional learning requirements.

Your duties may involve working one-on-one with pupils who need personalised support, as well as facilitating small group interventions tailored to meet diverse developmental needs. Students may present with a range of conditions including ADHD, ASD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD).

Your patience, empathy, and proactive attitude will contribute significantly to their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the classroom teacher in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
  • Prepare and organise classroom activities and resources prior to lessons.
  • Support students in their learning, providing additional assistance to individuals or small groups.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and confidence.
  • Build trusting relationships with students to help them feel secure and supported.
  • Monitor and track student progress, offering feedback to the teacher regarding individual achievements and challenges.
  • Implement guidance strategies for managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop tailored learning plans to accommodate individual needs.
  • Engage in continuing professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and effectiveness as an educator.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • An understanding of diverse learning needs and the ability to adapt approaches accordingly.
  • Reliability and commitment to fostering a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Previous experience in a similar role or working with children is beneficial but not required.
Requirements
  • Enhanced Child DBS clearance or willingness to apply for one.
  • Registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) or willing to register.
  • Ability to provide two most recent professional references.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Completion of Level 2 Safeguarding training provided by Teaching Personnel.
