Thomson Reuters is seeking an experienced commercial lawyer to support Reuters News in a unique role.

About the Role

The Senior Counsel will work closely with Reuters leadership in New York and London, negotiating complex media/technology deals and providing creative legal advice on multijurisdictional issues. This role can be located in London, Toronto, or New York.

As a global media lawyer, you will support the growth of relationships between Reuters and its clients and partners in a fast-evolving environment. Responsibilities include:

  • Negotiating media licensing and partnership deals
  • Providing timely and practical advice on legal issues across the media business
  • Supporting business stakeholders in analyzing novel technologies and use cases through a legal lens
  • Ensuring compliance with the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles
About You

You are a fit for this role if you:

  • Are a current practicing lawyer with substantial post-qualification experience in media licensing deals and advising clients in news/media/information/technology industries
  • Have the ability to advocate for business partners in commercial disputes
  • Have a depth and breadth of experience in acting in intellectual property matters, especially copyright
  • Are adaptable and prepared to contribute to areas outside core expertise

A strong understanding of AI/ML technologies and experience communicating across diverse geographies and cultures as part of a global team would be desirable.
