We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Environmental Scientist to join our team in Sittingbourne, Kent. As a key member of our Environmental Claims team, you will play a crucial role in supporting our work in Environmental Claims, dealing with land-based oil spills and other incidents.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct Phase I and Phase II site investigations to identify potential environmental hazards.
- Collect and analyze soil and groundwater samples to determine the extent of contamination.
- Supervise excavations and ensure compliance with Company health and safety protocols.
- Prepare and send samples to accredited laboratories for analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of Health and Safety documentation for site works.
- Conduct remediation site inspections to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor and collate data from in-situ remediation systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Liaise with contractors to ensure timely and effective completion of projects.
- Operate scientific equipment to collect and analyze data.
- Update project records to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Prepare project reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Assist with maintenance of stores and ensure compliance with Company protocols.
We are looking for a candidate with a degree in an environment/land related subject, or a practical background with experience dealing with oil spills for insurance companies. A CSCS card is desirable, but not essential as we will provide the necessary training. The successful candidate will have excellent literacy and reporting skills, a flexible attitude to work, and the enthusiasm and drive to deliver the requirements of this role. Ability to work as an effective member of a team and on your own initiative will be essential, along with excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. A full UK/EC driving licence is essential for this role, as you will be required to travel across the South of England.
