At Canonical, we are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineering Team Lead to manage the team responsible for the Ubuntu Server software. As a key member of our engineering team, you will oversee the development and maintenance of our software, ensuring it meets the needs of our customers and aligns with our company vision.

This is a unique opportunity to lead a globally distributed team of engineers and contribute to the growth and success of our company. You will work closely with our Product Management team to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu Server and collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and leading a globally distributed team of engineers
  • Developing talent through coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development
  • Working with Product Management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu Server
  • Effectively setting and managing expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
  • Advocating and advancing modern, agile software development practices
  • Developing and evangelizing great engineering and organizational practices
  • Growing a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values
  • Participating in strong engineering process through code and architectural review
  • Engaging with teams at Canonical, the open source community, and commercial partners
  • Overseeing the quality of the Ubuntu Server image family
  • Planning and delivering Ubuntu Server features

Requirements include:

  • 3+ years of experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers
  • Experience managing distributed teams is a plus
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about software development
  • Focused on success and the delivery of timely, high-quality software
  • Experience working in an agile development environment
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
  • Experience with a modern GNU/Linux distribution, Debian or Ubuntu preferred
  • Practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services
