Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a special school in Guildford. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs aged between 10-16 years old.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide emotional support to small groups of SEN students to help them on their learning and discovery journey.
- Escort students with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities to their classes each day, ensuring they are in a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Maintain accurate records of daily achievements and document daily observations.
- Keep EHCPs up to date to ensure all staff and SLT are informed about each student's needs.
- Support students with academic, sporting, and outdoor activities, helping them develop independent methods and coping mechanisms.
- Maintain Speech and Language Communication and build confidence in each student.
- Engage with parents/guardians to build healthy relationships through regular meetings or phone calls.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a SEN Teaching Assistant environment, especially with students aged 10-16 with Special Needs.
- Patient and consistent attitude to provide the best level of support and care.
- High emotional and physical strength to deal with changing student environments.
- Calm and reassuring manner to give students confidence.
- Strong knowledge of Compliance and Safeguarding procedures.
- IT and admin support to teachers.
- Can-do attitude and ability to hit the ground running.
- Relevant qualifications or training in Special Educational and related fields (advantageous but not essential).
