We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer to join our Asset Management team at the Canal & River Trust. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining and conserving our historic waterway infrastructure, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our canals and rivers.
Key Responsibilities- Asset management responsibility for a geographical area of canals, river navigations, and reservoirs.
- Responsible for undertaking scheduled asset inspections, ensuring that they are completed on time and to a high quality.
- Investigate and prioritize defects on a risk-based approach.
- Define and support the maintenance, repair, and renewal works for delivery by the Trust's teams and contractors, taking account of all statutory, technical, operational, and customer requirements.
- Contribute technical advice during the feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning phases for projects to our internal delivery teams (Customer Operations & Direct Services), framework contractors, and volunteers.
- Management of a small team of asset inspectors who monitor changes to the infrastructure.
- Support internal and external enquiries associated with the assets. Respond as appropriate by reference to relevant information sources.
- Where required, provide suitable temporary works designs to support local minor maintenance teams.
- Build relationships with local representatives of partnerships, regulators, and stakeholders to protect, maintain, and continually improve levels of service and improve data held by the Trust.
- Where appropriate, actively participate in the Trust's 'Stand-by' and 'Call-out rotas'.
- Degree or HND in Civil Engineering.
- Incorporated (IEng) status - or actively working towards - with the Institution of Civil Engineers (or similar). Advantageous.
- Proven experience of inspecting engineering activities.
- Proven experience in assessing infrastructure risk, for example: bridges, slopes, assets, railways, highways, water.
- Proven experience of safety in engineering, including CDM.
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
- Knowledge and understanding of historic infrastructure, preferably in the water environment, beneficial.
- Competitive annual base salary of £43,500 - £49,500.
- Car Cash Allowance (£425 per month).
- Competitive contributory DC Pension scheme arrangement, where we will double your contribution to a maximum of 10%.
- 25 days paid holiday (plus paid Bank Holidays), increasing to 30 days after 5 years.
- Home working status with 'hub' facilities available should you need the flexibility to work outside of home.
