About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer to join our Asset Management team at the Canal & River Trust. As a Senior Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining and conserving our historic waterway infrastructure, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our canals and rivers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Asset management responsibility for a geographical area of canals, river navigations, and reservoirs.
  • Responsible for undertaking scheduled asset inspections, ensuring that they are completed on time and to a high quality.
  • Investigate and prioritize defects on a risk-based approach.
  • Define and support the maintenance, repair, and renewal works for delivery by the Trust's teams and contractors, taking account of all statutory, technical, operational, and customer requirements.
  • Contribute technical advice during the feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning phases for projects to our internal delivery teams (Customer Operations & Direct Services), framework contractors, and volunteers.
  • Management of a small team of asset inspectors who monitor changes to the infrastructure.
  • Support internal and external enquiries associated with the assets. Respond as appropriate by reference to relevant information sources.
  • Where required, provide suitable temporary works designs to support local minor maintenance teams.
  • Build relationships with local representatives of partnerships, regulators, and stakeholders to protect, maintain, and continually improve levels of service and improve data held by the Trust.
  • Where appropriate, actively participate in the Trust's 'Stand-by' and 'Call-out rotas'.
Requirements
  • Degree or HND in Civil Engineering.
  • Incorporated (IEng) status - or actively working towards - with the Institution of Civil Engineers (or similar). Advantageous.
  • Proven experience of inspecting engineering activities.
  • Proven experience in assessing infrastructure risk, for example: bridges, slopes, assets, railways, highways, water.
  • Proven experience of safety in engineering, including CDM.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of historic infrastructure, preferably in the water environment, beneficial.

  • Competitive annual base salary of £43,500 - £49,500.
