We are seeking an enthusiastic and professionally qualified Mental Health Practitioner to join our Adults Community Mental Health Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with service users who have complex mental health needs, providing responsive and high-quality clinical services.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will work within the WAM Community Integrated Mental Health Services, holding a caseload and focusing on delivery of a specific time-limited intervention using the recovery model. The care and treatment will focus on empowering service users to use their strengths, skills, and special interests to help in their recovery.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Degree/Diploma in Mental Health Nursing
  • Current NMC Registration

Desirable criteria include specialist knowledge acquired through training in a specialised discipline.

Continuous Professional Development

The successful candidate will have evidence of continuous learning and previous knowledge and experience of working in a care environment and with service users who have complex mental health needs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The successful candidate will have experience of clinically supervising junior and unqualified staff and mentoring students, as well as the ability to administer depot medication.

They will also have substantial experience of managing a busy caseload of service users with a range of mental health conditions and experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and multi-agency environment.

The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge and understanding of relevant Health and Social Care legislation, including the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and the Care Act 2014.

They will also have effective and competent interpersonal, influencing, communication, observation, and reporting skills, as well as strong organisational skills and the ability to analyse situations and make the right decisions.

The successful candidate will be able to empathise, be supportive, and sensitive to the needs of others, as well as being able to cope with distressing circumstances.

They will also have the ability to work flexibly on a shift pattern as required and the ability to travel independently between locations to fulfil the requirements of the position.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively in a team, work on their own initiative, work unsupervised, and manage their own workload.

They will also have the ability to manage difficult situations with service users who have complex mental health conditions and challenging behaviours.

The successful candidate will hold a full UK Driving Licence and have use of a car for work purposes.
