Job Overview

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a Clinical Teacher to join its team. This role is designed for individuals looking to develop their teaching skills and contribute to the education of medical students.

Main Duties

  • Teach medical students in various clinical settings, including wards, ITU, theatres, clinics, and assessment units.
  • Deliver clinical and communication skills teaching across the whole course, in liaison with clinical skills lead and staff.
  • Support and organise clinical skills training, including the critical care programme.
  • Co-ordinate medical student activities, involving liaison with relevant clinical teachers, practice educator team, and secretariat.
  • Evaluate aspects of the curriculum and curricular delivery.
  • Participate in student assessment, including mini-CEX, DOPs, case-based discussion, and OSCE examination.
  • Complete formal study in medical education and maintain clinical skills.
  • Full involvement with the whole week teaching programme for year 5 students.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales.

Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services, including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care, and critical care.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

The successful applicant will take part in various modes of assessment and appraisal.

The post-holder will have a significant role in the delivery of the new curricular components of Year 5 of the Keele University Medical School Curriculum.

The post holder will support teaching in the 'year spine' component of the fourth year of the curriculum, including ethics, drug administration, and pain management.

The curriculum is in a continuous process of development, presenting other opportunities for training and participation in other varied teaching activities.

These include problem-based learning, clinical and communication skills tuition, and the use of advanced medical simulation via SimMan 3G.

Post holders will receive formal training in advanced medical simulation.
