About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Property Curator to join our team at the National Trust. As a key member of the Property Leadership Team, you will be responsible for setting the curatorial direction of Mount Stewart, a stunning neo-classical house with a collection of international significance.

As a Property Curator, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a long-term plan for the estate, building on the extensive restoration work completed at Mount Stewart house. You will work closely with the General Manager and internal specialists to sustain and develop our curatorial vision, engaging our visitors in all that is special about Mount Stewart.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a curatorial plan for Mount Stewart, ensuring the estate's rich history and cultural significance are preserved and presented to the public.
  • Work with the General Manager and internal specialists to develop and deliver interventions and programming to enhance visitor engagement, drive visitor growth, and deepen community connections.
  • Lead on the interpretation and programming of Mount Stewart's collections, ensuring culturally sensitive and historically accurate narratives that resonate with a diverse range of visitors.
  • Collaborate with the Property Leadership Team to develop and implement a strategic plan for the estate, aligning with the National Trust's overall vision and goals.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, and external partners, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Relevant formal academic or professional qualifications in Art History, Museum Studies, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in collections management and care, with a strong understanding of historic properties and their collections.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and build positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to connect with a wide range of audiences, including visitors, staff, and external partners.
  • Enthusiasm, knowledge, and inspiration, with a practical, pragmatic, and sensible approach to problem-solving.
