Job Title: Professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical

Job Summary:

The Commonwealth of Virginia invites applications for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical. The successful candidate will provide leadership in departmental education, research, and outreach activities in alignment with the strategic plan of the College and the University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives for the department
  • Mentor and support faculty and staff
  • Support key research thrusts in the department and the college
  • Foster interdisciplinary research and industry partnerships
  • Improve curriculum design and lead accreditation efforts
  • Demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
  • Work closely with the advisory board of the department
  • Perform research and scholarly activities
  • Teach courses in related areas

Requirements:

  • Record of scholarly accomplishments including peer-reviewed publications and an externally funded research program
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and ability to articulate a vision for advancing the education and research mission of the department through partnerships with the industry and the government
  • Strong commitment to shared governance practices, transparency, consensus building, and collaborative leadership values

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in academic leadership roles such as department chair or director of research centers
