Job Title: Fire Safety Manager

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Fire Safety Manager to join our team at the London Borough of Newham. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic and progressive environment, where you will have the chance to make a real impact on fire safety within our housing assets.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of fire safety across our Council-owned and managed housing assets. This includes providing operational fire safety management, conducting fire risk assessments, ensuring compliance with legislation, and acting as a subject matter expert in fire safety.

You will work closely with managers and staff to implement fire safety standards and initiatives, and provide training, advice, and guidance on fire safety legislation. Additionally, you will collaborate with teams to deliver fire safety improvement projects, develop relationships with key stakeholders, and prepare and present reports on fire safety-related matters.

This role requires a high level of expertise in fire safety management, including knowledge of fire risk assessment processes, building construction, and stakeholder engagement. You will also need excellent communication, analytical abilities, and proficiency in using MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of fire safety across the Council's housing assets.
  • Provide operational fire safety management for Council-owned and managed housing assets.
  • Conduct fire risk assessments and ensure the FRA programme is delivered on time.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation using performance data, risk assessments, and audits.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in fire safety and support the Housing Fire Risk Management Policy.
  • Liaise with managers and staff to implement fire safety standards and initiatives.
  • Deputise for the Senior Fire Safety Officer when necessary.
  • Provide training, advice, and guidance on fire safety legislation.
  • Collaborate with teams to deliver fire safety improvement projects.
  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders, including fire enforcement bodies and partners.
  • Prepare and present reports on fire safety-related matters.
  • Deliver expert technical knowledge to manage compliance across all assets.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A minimum 3 years' experience in the fire safety sector or similar.
  • Experience in managing or advising on fire safety in medium to large organizations.
  • A Fire safety qualification, NEBOSH or similar recognized Fire Safety Certificate Level 3 or 4.
  • Member of a recognized professional body like IFE, IFSM, IFPO with evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Excellent communication, analytical abilities, and proficiency in using MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • A commitment to improving fire safety with a person-centered approach.
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is estimated to be around £50,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
