About the Role

The NIHR Intellectual Property Unit is seeking an experienced IP Management Specialist to join their team in the UK. As a key member of the unit, you will play a vital role in ensuring that NIHR-funded intellectual property is identified, managed, and translated into impactful outcomes that improve healthcare quality, capacity, and capability in the UK and overseas.

About the Unit

The NIHR Intellectual Property Unit provides expert advice and support to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) on all NIHR-related intellectual property, contractual, and commercial issues. The successful candidate will work closely with the Assistant Director - IP and Commercial and other members of the IP Unit to plan and deliver the NIHR's IP work plan.

Your Responsibilities

  • Manage the NIHR IP Unit's routine processes and provide information to an agreed timetable.
  • Support NIHR staff members to resolve IP-related queries by running regular IP Open Sessions in various locations across England.
  • Negotiate return models, including financial and non-financial return mechanisms, for NIHR and prepare briefing notes for DHSC.
  • Provide IP training to NIHR programme managers and staff at NIHR-funded organisations.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the IP Unit's processes and systems.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the IP Unit's approaches and make recommendations for improvement.

Your Skills and Qualifications

  • A degree in a relevant subject or comparable professional experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of life science research gained from working in a university, NHS Trust, company, or charity.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property management in the public and private sectors.
  • An understanding of the regulatory framework for intellectual property management.
  • A proven track record in obtaining appropriate legal advice on intellectual property management issues.

How You Will Be Compensated

The salary for this position is approximately £60,000 per annum, reflecting the level of expertise required to excel in this role.
