Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Biomedical Services Technician to join the Department of Biomedical Services at the University of Oxford. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day care of animals in experimental research, providing a high level of animal welfare and supporting the scientific community across the University.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and maintain the cleanliness and organization of animal enclosures, including the provision of adequate food and water supplies.
  • Perform routine animal checks, including monitoring animal health and behavior, and reporting any concerns to senior staff.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of animal care protocols, ensuring compliance with University and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with research teams to provide animal care and support services, including the collection and processing of animal samples.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of animal care policies and procedures, ensuring best practice and compliance with University and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Experience of working in a laboratory animal environment, with a strong understanding of animal welfare and care principles.
  • Hold an IAT level 2 or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Excellent organizational and computing skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with research teams, senior staff, and other stakeholders.
