Head Gardener

Senior Horticulturalist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Horticulturalist to join our team at Landscaping Matters. As a key member of our garden team, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing our award-winning gardens across Belgravia and Mayfair.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate gardener who possesses strong leadership skills, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude. You will work closely with our Landscape Team Leader daily to lead and organize the friendly gardens team.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of horticulture, plant identification, and maintenance gardening. Previous experience of leading teams would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

• Able and willing to support and deputise for the Team Leader.
• Provide horticultural knowledge and guidance to the team of Gardeners and apprentices.
• Undertake all horticultural duties to ensure that the gardens are maintained and developed to a high standard.
• Supervise, motivate, and manage a team of gardeners in amenity maintenance.
• Provide occasional guided walks and horticultural advice to all stakeholders including Grosvenor staff, charities, and students.
• Ensure all Gardeners are appropriately trained and carry out all duties in line with the Health & Safety Policy.
• Assist in the design and implementation of soft landscaping schemes for existing gardens and proposed projects.
• Have a good understanding and experience of implementing relevant health and safety legislation and practice.
• Instruct, co-ordinate, and control external contractors such as tree surgeons, grounds maintenance operatives, and plant suppliers where necessary.
• Communicate all changes in legislation, new codes of practice, new official guidance, and new working practices to your team.
• Knowledge of plant identification with significant practical experience in horticulture supported by relevant qualifications.
• Supervisory experience working in a similar garden status.
• Possess good communication skills within a team environment.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced gardener who possesses the management skills, enthusiasm, and a positive 'can do' attitude. As part of this role, you'll be required to work very occasional weekends as part of a garden-team rota.

The estimated salary for this position is £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
