About the Role

The IP Unit at NIHR is responsible for drafting and maintaining contracts that fund NIHR research. As a Contracts Manager, you will support the drafting of new NIHR Infrastructure and Programme contracts, ensuring that NIHR has appropriate rights and that risks to DHSC are managed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist contractual advice to NIHR colleagues on NIHR template agreements, charity co-funding agreements, and contractor collaboration agreements.
  • Support the rollout of new contractual terms across the three coordinating centres.
  • Provide advice and support to DHSC on the development of NIHR templates, Variations to Contracts, and template co-funding agreements.
  • Assess the risks and implications of contractual terms within the context of a proposed funding call.
  • Stay up-to-date with policy issues affecting the research funding environment in the UK and provide briefings to the IP Unit.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of legislation, regulations, and policy affecting research and provide guidance to the IP Unit.
  • Support the Senior Contracts Manager in triaging new contract requests.
  • Liaise with NIHR programme teams on contractual issues and ensure that all contracts follow correct procedures.
  • Work with the Senior Contracts Manager to develop best practice and smooth processes.
What You Will Bring
  • Experience with R&D contracts and drafting and negotiating research contracts.
  • Familiarity with the research funding landscape in the UK and government policies relating to research.
  • Awareness of government policy relating to research and innovation in the UK and overseas.
  • Familiarity with legislation affecting research contracts, including subsidy control and UK GDPR.
  • Experience of IP management and commercialisation (desirable).
  • Experience of training colleagues on contractual and IP related matters (desirable).
