About the Role

The European Tax Manager will be responsible for managing the statutory, insurance, and tax obligations of Europe by overseeing the Tax and Statutory Accounting (TSA) Leads in the region. This role will direct a decentralized team across 9 countries, balancing multiple priorities to meet demanding deadlines with internal and external contracts.

This position will provide TSA oversight to approximately 30 legal entities in 20 European countries, with 10 direct reports. The European Tax Manager will act as a liaison between Corporate Tax, Corporate Insurance, Regional SSC, and outsourced service providers to ensure compliance with regulations, accounting principles, and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the TSA organization in Europe, including hiring new employees, objective setting, employee development, and performance management reviews.
  • Ensure timely completion and filing of all statutory reporting requirements and tax returns in Europe, working closely with Group Lead TSAs and external parties.
  • Directly responsible for preparing local statutory accounts and detailed analysis for local Corporate Tax returns.
  • Manage the Transfer Pricing position via Group Lead TSAs for all applicable European entities.
  • Assist the Regional Tax Director in compiling responses related to tax provisions and collecting responses from TSA Leads.
  • Assist the Regional Tax Director in managing local Transfer Pricing reports detailing intercompany reporting via Group Lead TSAs.
  • Manage the Regional Insurance function for Europe, providing necessary information to Corporate Insurance and acting as a liaison on Corporate Insurance matters.
  • Handle queries and matters raised by external and internal auditors, as well as tax authorities, ensuring accurate Tax entries at month and year-end.

Requirements

  • Qualified Accountant or recognized financial qualification with extensive experience in statutory reporting.
  • Experience in leading and developing people in a finance department is essential.
  • Knowledge of financial systems (ideally SAP), organization, and data sources necessary to answer a full range of financial statement questions.
  • Ability to interpret and apply statutory and tax compliance requirements in home country and other multiple jurisdictions.
