About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Air Conditioning Systems Engineer to join our Mechanical HVAQ team at BAE Systems (New). As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in the design and development of cutting-edge HVAC and life support systems for next-generation nuclear submarines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop functional engineering solutions that meet complex cross-functional interactions and requirements.
  • Engage with suppliers to develop and capture equipment and component specifications that meet the challenging demands of the product.
  • Work directly with customers to develop requirements and acceptance criteria based on operational scenarios, use cases, and design considerations.
  • Perform and review engineering calculations and analysis to make design decisions and demonstrate system performance.
  • Develop the package of design evidence required to justify a safe, effective design and generate customer confidence in the design solution.
  • Coordinate, manage, and leverage a wide stakeholder base to solve complex engineering problems and make responsible engineering decisions.
Requirements
  • Educated to Degree level in Engineering, Mechanical, or Science Subjects, working towards Chartership.
  • Experience with HVAC or Cooling Systems.
  • Experience in the design and development of Mechanical Systems, ideally within Defence or Marine Engineering sectors.
  • Design documentation with the ability to present these to customers and wider groups.
  • Solving complex calculations relating to fluid flows and heat transfer.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, finite element analysis (FEA), Matlab, Flomaster, and other relevant engineering tools.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
