Site Engineer (HS2 Project)

Location: Aylesbury

Salary: £42,500 Per Annum

As a key member of our engineering team, you will assist senior staff and supervise junior/trainee staff to ensure site earthmoving teams have up-to-date information and required documentation to proceed safely, on time, and productively. You will compile accurate records to fulfill our obligations regarding quality assurance.

Duties:
  1. Maintain a good working knowledge of IFC Drawings, Specifications, Technical Standards, Inspection and Test Plans, and Mass Haul quantities and destinations for each earthworks Asset in the section of work being undertaken.
  2. Translate this knowledge into accurate construction on site with minimal NCRs/rework through effective communication with Works Managers and Foremen.
  3. Highlight and report any defects to the Senior Engineer as soon as possible, propose corrective action, and agree with the Client quickly, with remedial works/repairs carried out with minimal disruption.
  4. Assist in producing good quality safety documentation (RAMS etc) in a timely manner to allow works to proceed without hindrance by lack of signed-off paperwork.
  5. Ensure Quality Assurance forms are completed for every section of work, accurately reflecting the as-built construction.
  6. Review daily Allocation Sheet data and highlight any additional works, missing items, poor record-keeping, and ensure the Commercial team receives an accurate record of the works each day.
  7. Assist with supervising Apprentice/work-placement engineers and delegate tasks to ensure effective time management.
  8. Occasionally, assist the survey team with site surveys where construction may halt due to the absence of a surveyor.
Requirements:
  1. A strong leader with the ability to empathize.
  2. Degree/HNC in a relevant subject or qualified by experience.
  3. Substantial responsibility for the operation of NEC Option C contracts.
  4. Considerable experience of civil engineering construction.
  5. A skilled negotiator.
Desirable:
  1. Earthworks contracting experience.
  2. Experience in the rail environment.
  3. Full understanding of dispute avoidance techniques.
