Job Description

Imperial College London is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to contribute to the second phase of the Faraday Institution's project on cathode development for lithium-sulfur batteries. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team across different universities, driving innovative research to overcome current limitations in power density and lifespan of Li-S cells.

Estimated Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop effective sulfur cathode scaffolds for lithium-sulfur batteries using electrospun carbon materials and novel S/C composites.
  2. Collaborate with colleagues from other work packages to combine best-performing materials with anodes and electrolytes.
  3. Conduct electrochemical testing of systems in coin and pouch cell configurations and employ in situ characterisation techniques to investigate sulfur conversion mechanisms.
Requirements
  • A first degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline, and a PhD (or equivalent) in a similar field.
  • Good theoretical knowledge and practical experience of materials synthesis, materials characterisation, and electrochemistry preferably related to batteries or electrocatalysis.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a large team and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
