Senior Commercial Strategist

This exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Commercial Strategist to join our Strategy and Policy team at Manchester Digital. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our organisation's strategic direction and ensuring we deliver against our key priorities.
The Strategy and Policy team is responsible for providing the organisation with the strategic insight and analysis needed to anticipate future challenges and opportunities. We work closely with other teams to decide Ofcom's position on new or cross-cutting consumer, public policy, and competition issues.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing strategic projects, taking ownership of key day-to-day responsibilities, and overseeing the delivery of high-quality reports for publication. You will also provide advice and guidance to others across a range of policy areas, applying robust analytical approaches to identify key questions and develop hypotheses.
As a Senior Commercial Strategist, you will contribute proactively to debates about strategic, policy, and organisational issues, providing thought leadership within the Strategy & Policy team and across the wider organisation. You will also represent Ofcom at external meetings and develop an external network to improve Ofcom's understanding of stakeholder positions.
Your Key Responsibilities- Project Management and Delivery:
- Manage strategic projects, taking ownership of key day-to-day responsibilities, such as timelines, budget, governance, internal and external stakeholders.
- Take an active role in setting direction for projects, in dialogue with senior stakeholders.
- Oversee or lead the delivery of high-quality reports for publication and present results to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage upwards and exercise good judgement in proactively managing and mitigating risks.
- Occasionally act as Project Director, with ultimate responsibility for the quality of output and liaising with internal clients at Director level.
- Analytical Work and Thought Leadership:
- Lead commercial strategy thinking in specific areas and provide advice and guidance to others across a range of policy areas.
- Apply robust analytical approaches, including identifying key questions to answer and developing hypotheses.
- Contribute proactively to debates about strategic, policy, and organisational issues, providing thought leadership within the Strategy & Policy team and across the wider organisation.
- Represent Ofcom at external meetings and develop an external network to improve Ofcom's understanding of stakeholder positions.
- Team Management:
- Take responsibility for managing, motivating, and developing junior colleagues in your capacity as Project Manager or Director.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the team and Ofcom as an excellent place to work.
- Strategy Development:
- You should have a proven track record leading strategy development initiatives, including developing or identifying appropriate analytical frameworks and developing or assessing the competitive strategy of individual businesses.
- Commercial Strategy Analysis:
- You should have a high degree of expertise and experience in commercial strategy analysis.
