Academic Clinical Lectureships

Up to £64,461 per annum, dependent on career stage.

This is an exciting opportunity for health professionals to pursue a PhD and develop their academic and clinical skills in a world-leading research environment. The ECAT-i programme at the University of Edinburgh offers a unique combination of clinical training and practice with research experience, tailored to individual trainees' needs.

The posts are available to:

  • Trainees in all GMC-recognised medical and surgical specialties
  • Primary care practitioners
  • Candidates from across the UK

We welcome applications from motivated individuals who wish to combine clinical practice with academic research. As a participant in the ECAT-i programme, you will have the opportunity to work with leading researchers and clinicians in your chosen specialty, developing your skills in research design, methodology, and analysis.

Requirements:

  • A commitment to a research career and a track record of research experience appropriate to your career stage
  • A specialty training position with a National Training Number (NTN) in your chosen discipline in the UK (if applicable)
  • GMC registration and current clinical practice in the UK
  • Relevant clinical experience in your chosen specialty
  • Eligibility for higher specialist clinical training

As a member of the ECAT-i programme, you will also receive support with planning and selection of supervisors, funding for a preparatory period, and mentorship throughout your PhD journey. Interviews will be held in person in Edinburgh, and we encourage applications from diverse candidates. Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check required.
