At Penguin Recruitment, we are actively seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer with over 5 years of industry experience to join our Civil and Structural Engineering Consultancy in London.

Estimated Salary: up to £55,000 per annum

Job Description:

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Structural Engineer to oversee a variety of projects and manage a team of graduate engineers. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, technical proficiency, and a dedication to mentoring junior team members.

  • The successful candidate will lead and manage projects across sectors such as residential, commercial, public, educational, and temporary works design, from concept to completion.
  • You will build and maintain robust relationships with clients and architects, actively participating in project proposals and fee negotiations.
  • Conduct initial concept and feasibility designs, producing detailed reports and presenting Design Team Meetings (DTMs).
  • Independently review and validate detailed designs, ensuring they meet industry standards and best practices.
  • Assess contractor tender submissions and provide insightful recommendations to clients.
  • Perform regular site visits during critical construction phases to ensure compliance with safety and design specifications.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of graduate engineers, technicians, and other project participants.
  • Facilitate technical training sessions for graduate engineers and placement students.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  1. A degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  2. At least 5 years of relevant experience in structural engineering.
  3. Proficiency in AutoCAD and familiarity with design codes, particularly Eurocode.
  4. Strong conceptual design skills with the ability to work in 3D.
  5. Exceptional attention to detail and sketching ability.
  6. Practical understanding of detailing.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Demonstrated capability to manage multiple projects independently and effectively.
