About the Role

We are Unite Students, a forward-thinking FTSE 100 company and the leading provider of purpose-built student accommodation in the UK. We are seeking an experienced Facilities Team Leader to join our Customer Operations team as part of our commitment to delivering exceptional service to our students.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a small team of Facilities Team Members, ensuring a well-maintained, safe, secure, compliant, and efficient environment across our student properties. This includes taking ownership of planned and reactive maintenance, and providing a world-class and responsive service to our students.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the Facilities Manager in building and developing a motivated, engaged, and high-performance team
  • Take ownership of routine team activities, including delegating tasks and setting targets
  • Support the training and development of team members to help them reach their potential
  • Assume responsibility for team responsiveness in solving students' problems
  • Ensure compliance checks are done correctly and on time
  • Lead and motivate the team to provide general maintenance assistance throughout our student properties, including fixing doors, painting walls, cleaning the courtyard, or changing light bulbs
  • Conduct regular building checks to ensure that our buildings are clean, safe, and secure

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A full UK driving license
  • General knowledge or experience working within maintenance, e.g., minor electrical, decorating, plumbing, joinery work
  • Ability to confidentially lead the team in the absence of the Facilities Manager to maintain exceptional customer service
  • Ability to manage competing demands of compliance and delivering world-class experience for our students
  • Effective communication skills, including actively listening, making logical points, and using appropriate language, tone, and gesture
  • Great time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Calm and focused approach, even in difficult or pressurised situations
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • An estimated salary of £30,000-£35,000 per annum, depending on experience
