About the Role

The Leicestershire County Council is seeking a Waste Operations Officer to manage waste operations and waste transfer at its Recycling and Household Waste Sites (RHWS) and Waste Transfer Stations (WTS).

The successful candidate will have multiple base locations and will be responsible for managing the performance of waste sites, managing a team of supervisors and operatives, and ensuring that training and development is delivered to the team.

The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring that Health and Safety Policy documents are up to date, fit for purpose, and being adhered to, investigating any reported incidents, and implementing necessary remediation measures or controls.

The role requires effective and efficient control of stock levels of consumables, equipment, PPE, and Uniform, keeping and maintaining accurate records, and assisting the Team manager with budget and contract management.

About You

The successful candidate will have good experience in the management of waste operations, with very good experience in the supervision and management of teams of employees in the waste management industry or similar workplace.

The candidate will also have good communication skills, including the ability to negotiate, resolve issues, and achieve successful outcomes, and be able to effectively engage with customers and resolve customer issues.

The candidate will have a good knowledge of site operations and environmental maintenance/compliance, and a strong knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety on waste sites.

Requirements

  • A valid relevant Certificate of Technical Competence or the desire, willingness, and ability to work towards gaining this qualification within a reasonable time.
  • Good experience in the management of waste operations with very good experience in the supervision and management of teams of employees in the waste management industry or similar workplace.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to negotiate, resolve issues, and achieve successful outcomes, and be able to effectively engage with customers and resolve customer issues.
  • A good knowledge of site operations and environmental maintenance/compliance, and a strong knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety on waste sites.
  • Intermediate experience level with Microsoft packages, standard IT equipment, and industry-standard software, with good organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritise effectively.
