At Abbott, we are seeking a highly skilled Microbiologist to join our team in Witney, West Oxfordshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the cleanroom monitoring activities are completed to maintain sterility assurance level in our manufacturing facility.

The Environmental Monitoring Group performs regular microbial monitoring of the cleanrooms, product, and utilities to ensure compliance with ISO 8 cleanroom standards. The team reviews and investigates any trends, champions cleanroom best practices, and assesses any changes to cleaning and gowning.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Performing routine environmental monitoring of clean rooms, including air, surface, and compressed air sampling.
  • Conducting particle counts, microbial sampling, and other tests to assess clean room conditions.
  • Documenting and reporting findings accurately, maintaining detailed records of all monitoring activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other regulatory standards.
  • Collaborating with production and quality assurance teams to address any deviations or issues.
  • Calibrating and maintaining monitoring equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Participating in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of clean room protocols and procedures.
  • Training and mentoring manufacturing personnel on clean room best practice.

To be successful in this role, you should have a Bachelor's degree in a scientific subject or equivalent experience in an ISO cleanroom environment. You must also have excellent attention to detail skills, a logical and methodical approach to problem solving, the ability to prioritize, and the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances or new demands.

You will be expected to spend time in the manufacturing facility, so you will need to have, or be able to develop, good hands-on practical skills. Good IT skills, including Excel and PowerPoint, are also required for this role.
