Job Title: VAT Manager

Job Type: Full-time

Location: Hybrid working (50% working from home/reporting to Birmingham office)

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure clients' tax affairs comply with statutory time limits, and manage compliance work efficiently, profitably, and in accordance with the firm's tax manual.
  • Identify and advise on tax planning opportunities and undertake specialist technical assignments as required.
  • Respond to clients' correspondence as a matter of priority, and keep the client and partner fully informed of the current status of the tax work.
  • Act as the principal point of contact to clients on tax queries and maintain excellent client service always.
  • Ensure appropriate liaison takes place with other departments.
  • Monitor work in progress reports, to ensure the profitable recoverability of work done and to bill clients on a timely basis.
  • Develop an advanced level of technical knowledge through appropriate reading and courses and an awareness of the firm's services, brochures, and publications.
  • Identify, interview, and convert prospective clients and assist other departments in the research and preparation of formal proposals for new work.
  • Take an active involvement in prospective client seminars and effectively follow up contacts made.
  • Assist in review and quality control procedures and the administration of the department where required.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required.
  • Carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the job, the title of the role, and its grading, as requested by the line manager or Head of Department.

Requirements:

  • Preferably CTA / ATII qualified or equivalent, ideally with an accounting qualification such as ACA or ACCA.
  • Proven experience in client handling and project management.
  • Proven tax experience in producing high-quality work within budget.
