Role Responsibility

Kent County Council is seeking individuals to join its three-person Member Remuneration Panel. The Panel's primary objective is to provide expert advice to the Council on the Members Allowances Scheme.

Main Focus Areas
  • Recommendations on the basic allowance payable to all 81 Members (Councillors).
  • Roles and responsibilities for which a special responsibility allowance should be payable and the corresponding amounts.
  • Miscellaneous expenses, including travel allowances, subsistence allowances, and dependent carer allowances.
  • Allowances for co-opted members.

The ideal candidate will possess some understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Members and have knowledge or experience in finance or local government. Political impartiality is essential, and applicants should not be affiliated with the Council or have close associations with Councillors or employees.

This is a part-time position with a four-year term, and an allowance will be paid. The workload will vary depending on whether the Panel is reviewing the scheme as a whole or part thereof. Please refer to the information pack and job description for further details.

Panel members are appointed to a four-year term, and consecutive appointments are permitted.

Interviews will be held at Sessions House, Maidstone, Kent.
