About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Network Rail as a Project Manager within the Rolling Programme of Decarbonisation, working on the Traction Power Programme. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the safe and effective delivery of complex multidisciplinary projects across central Scotland, with a focus on external stakeholder interfaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the delivery of low-complexity projects or parts of complex projects in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, meeting time, cost, and quality requirements in accordance with PACE, Network Rail company standards, current legislation, and procedures.
  • Support the project manager and sponsor in preparing and maintaining project requirements definitions.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams, including commercial, programme controls, engineering, and others, to identify solutions to client requirements and establish a robust baseline plan.
  • Identify and monitor project risks, plan and implement mitigations, and respond to issues affecting the project.
  • Implement and update resource allocation plans for project delivery, including identification and management of critical resource requirements.
  • Manage stakeholders, taking into account their levels of influence and particular interests.
  • Conduct project reviews at appropriate points throughout the project lifecycle, providing evaluations of progress, performance, risk, contingency, and continuing relevance to inform governance decisions.
  • Establish and implement protocols for changing project scope and updating configuration documents as required.
  • Support accident investigations as remitted by the relevant designated competent person.
Requirements
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Membership (or working towards membership) of the Association for Project Management.
  • PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent certification.
  • Good stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Successful relevant experience, including experience of contracting and project delivery.
  • Knowledge and experience of project budget management.
  • Good evaluation and decision-making skills.
  • Project safety management and Health and Safety legislation knowledge.
  • Knowledge of safety cases in support of projects.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience in the Rail Industry Sector, including application of GRIP and Construction Design Management (CDM) on simple projects.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail's Project, Investment, Commercial, and Procurement practices.
  • Experience in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.
  • Flexible and proactive approach.
  • Team player with a willingness to learn, challenge, and get involved.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail's assets and how they are managed.
