Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom NHS Lothian Full time
Job Summary

NHS Scotland is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workforce, promoting equality and eliminating unlawful discrimination. We strive to create a work environment where each employee feels valued and empowered to contribute their best.

We welcome applications from all sections of society and are dedicated to supporting disabled candidates, those with long-term conditions, and individuals who are neurodivergent. Our goal is to create a truly representative workforce, where every employee feels respected and supported.

Job Description

This exciting opportunity is available in our Learning Disabilities Occupational Therapy Team, which is split between two teams: the Inpatient Learning Disabilities Service and the Mental Health Intensive Support and Treatment (MHIST) Team. The successful candidate will work 2.5 days in the inpatient wards, supporting adults with learning disabilities who require assessment and treatment for mental health, forensic, or behavioral support needs. The remaining 2 days will be spent with the MHIST Team, providing intensive support in the community to prevent hospital admissions.

Both teams are well-established multidisciplinary teams, offering opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work closely with a strong Occupational Therapy leadership team, receiving ongoing support to deliver high-quality, person-centered occupational therapy services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work as an Occupational Therapist in mental health, learning disabilities, or children's and families services
  • Develop clinical decision-making, risk management, and prioritization skills
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver person-centered care
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and innovative practice
Requirements

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and decision-making skills, with a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary working. You will be an enthusiastic team player, able to motivate others and work independently. A passion for quality improvement and innovative practice is highly valued.

Regular clinical and professional supervision are prioritized within the service, and the successful candidate will be supported to take up a range of training and professional development opportunities.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group, an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

NHS Scotland is reducing its full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024, with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part-time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment reflect the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37-hour working week immediately, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
