Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Central London Community Health Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing specialist services to children attending mainstream schools with Speech/Language and communication needs (SLCN).

Main Responsibilities
  • Assess the needs of children referred to the SLT service and develop and implement specialist Speech and Language Therapy treatment plans.
  • Provide advice to other professionals regarding the management and care of children with communication difficulties.
  • Work closely with parents, carers, and school staff to enable children to develop their speech, language, and communication skills and access the curriculum.
  • Contribute to statutory assessments and write reports outlining SLT needs in line with our internal processes.
  • Deliver therapy and wider support outlined on children's Education Health and Care Plans.
  • Train and work with school staff to deliver SLT interventions.
  • Assess and report on children's progress, contributing to annual reviews and liaising with parents.

Requirements
  • Degree and Licence to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
  • Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT.
  • Experience of supporting children, families, and schools in line with the Children and Families Act 2014, including contribution to statutory assessments and delivery of SLT provision as specified in Education Health and Care Plans.
  • Collaborative work with parents and other professionals.
  • Experience of training others.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Interest in developing clinical specialism in education.
  • Training or experience in supporting students and more junior qualified therapists, including provision of supervision and line management.
Key Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including observation, listening, and empathy.
  • Understanding of typical child development, Speech and Language, Play, and other milestones.
  • Good working knowledge of appropriate assessments and interventions for school-aged children with Speech, Language, and Communication needs.
  • Awareness of national policies and procedures relevant to education.
  • Good understanding of the roles of other professionals relevant to the client group.
