Job Overview

The University of Birmingham is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Research Portfolio Manager to join our esteemed Clinical Trials Unit. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in managing a portfolio of trials associated with a clinical specialty and coordinating trial activities.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced professional with a higher degree in a relevant biomedical science or associated subject, with a proven track record of successfully managing clinical trials research. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of clinical research and trial management methodology, including applicable regulatory requirements.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Portfolio Management: Oversee a portfolio of trials associated with a clinical specialty, ensuring timely completion and high-quality data collection.
  2. Trial Coordination: Coordinate trial activities, including design, preparation, and submission of regulatory documents.
  3. Team Supervision: Provide day-to-day supervision, motivation, and support to junior staff members, including work allocation, cover rotas, problem-solving, staff development, and performance monitoring.
  4. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all trials comply with current legislation, regulatory requirements, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Higher Degree: A PhD or MSc in a relevant biomedical science or associated subject.
  • Experience: Proven track record of successfully managing clinical trials research, including experience preparing regulatory and ethics submissions.
  • Project Management: Excellent project management and supervisory skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
