Big Yellow Self Storage is a leading provider of self-storage solutions, with a network of stores nationwide. We are committed to delivering exceptional customer experiences and driving revenue growth through our team of dedicated professionals.

We are seeking an experienced Area Manager to join our team, responsible for managing and improving performance across 10 stores, with 35 team members, and a geographical spread from Grimsby in the south to Aberdeen in the north.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Deliver the area's agreed annual forecast for sales and costs, growing area revenue and profitability.
  • Lead, coach and develop Store Managers to identify opportunities for growth and achieve targets.
  • Develop Store Managers to identify sales opportunities in their local trading environment, through competitor awareness and local business opportunities.
  • Ensure the area delivers exceptional customer experiences through the correct delivery of customer service ethics and standards.
  • Drive the area customer feedback results, ensuring results and trends are monitored and discussed with stores.
  • Role model Company values and behaviours, creating an inclusive and diverse environment where people feel respected and listened to.
  • Deliver a positive working environment, providing regular praise and encouragement.
  • Provide timely, focused and balanced feedback on performance to individuals within the team.
  • Communicate regularly with teams across the business, as appropriate.
  • Manage optimum store staffing structures, within budget.
  • Undertake regular, documented visits of stores, to ensure all business requirements are met.
  • Sustain a culture of operational excellence and ensure store compliance to Company policies, procedures and instructions.
  • Manage and review the area audit performance and improve profit protection measures.
  • Support the delivery of new store openings in the correct timescales and to the correct Company standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience in remote management, driving revenue and developing their team. They will be able to demonstrate:

  • An effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.
  • The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with team members, customers, suppliers and key stakeholders at all levels.
  • The ability to recruit, build and motivate a high-performing sales team.
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
  • Good sales experience and a proven track record of coaching and developing staff.
  • Strong analytical skills to spot opportunities for improvement and praise.
  • Multi-site and remote management experience.
  • Customer-centric focused.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to solve problems and enhance operational methodology.
  • Project management skills.
