About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Lead Network Performance Engineer. As a key member of our Transmission Network team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our transmission network.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Network Analysis and Risk Assessment: Conduct in-depth analysis of existing and emerging network operability and stability risks, including risks posed by new technologies and wider changes in the electricity network.
  2. Risk Mitigation and Solution Development: Identify, design, develop, and implement solutions to manage and minimize operational/operability risks or network performance problems.
  3. Process Development and Implementation: Develop, implement, and maintain processes, policies, and standards to manage network operability risks.
  4. Performance Monitoring and Issue Management: Monitor the performance of the network to identify and manage emerging risks/issues.
  5. Project Support and Collaboration: Assist with the successful connection and integration of equipment that may pose a wider operability risk, such as HVDC links, static and dynamic reactive compensation equipment, by providing project support during the design, specification, tendering, and delivery of such projects.
  6. Operability and Interaction Support: Support other teams in Transmission and Engineering Design on operability and interaction issues.
  7. Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Work with academic institutions, industry bodies/forums, Ofgem, the ESO, other TOs, and stakeholders with the aim of understanding and minimizing network risks.
Requirements
  1. Education and Experience: A degree in Electrical Engineering with a higher degree in a relevant subject area and/or relevant industrial design experience.
  2. Power Systems Knowledge: Experience in power systems, power system analysis, and design.
  3. Technical Skills: A good understanding of the response of power systems to disturbances and interaction mechanisms such as SSTI, control system interactions, or other resonant conditions.
  4. Project Experience: Experience in the design, development, or delivery of transmission network projects.
  5. Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of the GB SQSS, Grid Code, and STC.
  6. Communication Skills: Good communication skills with the ability to write clear reports and present complex technical matters to a non-technical audience.
  7. Professional Membership: Chartered membership of the IET or working towards this.
  8. Regulatory Environment: Knowledge of the regulatory environment.
