Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing comprehensive industrial measurement surveys of the ship and in-process manufactured/assembled structures, components, and assemblies. The successful candidate will utilize industrial measurement equipment for precision setting, alignment of structures, weapons system foundations, machinery foundations, and other specialized pieces.

The Role

  • Undertake dimensional checks and verifications to client specifications, ensuring any non-conformances are appropriately recorded.
  • Carry out dimensional analysis of fabrications and vessels, and in-process manufactured/assembled structures, components, and assemblies.
  • Provide information and guidance as required on inspection, measurement test equipment, and material handling.
  • Carry out visual and performance testing of finished work.
  • Review tolerances and advise on any revisions needed to construction methods.
  • Identify, assess, and implement process improvements.
  • Must be able to work in confined and challenging locations in ships.
  • Employee is regularly required to stand; walk; climb stairs and ladders; reach with hands and arms; kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must abide by and enforce all organisational policies and procedures. The individual must have a working knowledge of all company and regulated safety and environmental regulations, processes, procedures, and company policies and perform the supervisory functions in compliance with all of the above.

Requirements

  • Experience surveying fabricated structures or vessels.
  • Knowledge of welding, assembly procedures, and erection sequence.
  • Knowledge of structural design.
  • Familiarity with shipbuilding practices preferred. Familiarity with Surveying Instruments (Total Stations, Theodolites, Precision Levels), and AutoCAD.
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.
