Electrical Design Technical Lead

Thomas Thor is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Technical Lead to join our team in Bristol. As a global leader in designing an unconditionally safe and secure source of clean energy, we are building a brand new team to advance our Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of next-generation nuclear power technology. As an Electrical Design Technical Lead, you will provide technical leadership for the engineering assessment, design, and safety justification of the SMR-300 for deployment in the UK and worldwide.

You will be responsible for delivering technical scope of high integrity/complex electrical systems within the Electrical discipline, as well as taking ownership of the electrical engineering chapter of the Safety Case for submission to the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) for use in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead on Electrical Systems Engineering of AC/DC power systems for operational and emergency needs
  • Develop and implement SMR-300 electrical design strategy for Grid Compliance and 50/60Hz design conversion
  • Demonstrate SMR-300 Electrical architecture suitability for safety functional claims
  • Oversight, as Intelligent Customer, of key evidence supporting safety claims
  • Support the development of the Electrical chapter of the Safety Case for submission in the SMR-300 GDA
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external organizations, including the nuclear regulators
Requirements:
  • Excellent credentials in principles of electrical engineering
  • Strong presentation and communication skills – able to present at multiple organisational levels and to external regulatory stakeholders
