EHS Manager

As a key member of our team at The Sherwin-Williams Company, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental well-being of our manufacturing site in Liverpool. This position is ideal for an experienced EHS professional looking to take on new challenges or for someone with a strong background in EHS looking to join a global organization.
Main Responsibilities:
- Maintain and improve the Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems, ensuring all policies are up-to-date, relevant, and compliant with local regulations.
- Identify gaps in legislative compliance and develop plans to close them in conjunction with site management.
- Ensure EHS management systems undergo regular management reviews, incorporating improvements and best practices.
- Audit EHS procedures and standards in practice, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate EHS records, data, and timely reporting, ensuring root cause analysis investigations are completed for all incidents.
- Control the site Hazard, Near Miss, and Reportable database, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
- Liaise with Regional and Corporate EHS colleagues, implementing SW Corporate standards and best practices.
- May have responsibility for Permit to Work management, issuing permits to contractors and suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations on COMAH/SEVESO sites, if applicable.
- Provide information on occupational health-related concerns, initiating necessary monitoring and providing advice and guidance on results.
- Minimize exposure to hazardous substances and other hazards using the hierarchy of control measures.
- Ensure efficient EHS communication through EHS Committee Meetings, attendance, and sharing information from EHS EMEAI meetings and EHS Alerts.
- Promote a continually improving safety culture through EHS sub-committees and employee involvement.
- May be responsible for waste management, controlling waste streams, and reconciling waste documents.
- Liaise with regulators, consultants, trade, and professional bodies to ensure compliance and capture best practices.
- Identify, develop, and facilitate appropriate safety, health, and environmental training and refresher training.
- Facilitate process safety processes such as HAZID and HAZOP.
- Ensure Emergency Preparedness, including training, test run scenarios, and contingency plans.
- Supervise local EHS team members, including hiring, training, evaluating performance, and determining disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Accountable for the security operation on site, investigating root causes of security incidents and ensuring timely action completion.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Health and Safety, or a related field or equivalent education and experience.
- Progressive EHS experience, including the administration of broad EHS programs.
- Technical/Skill Requirements:
- Managing comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs.
- Applying specialized knowledge in an area of health, environmental, and safety programs.
- Coordinating activities with regulatory agencies.
- Leading site procedural and operational audits.
- Providing direction and consultation on various health, safety, and environmental issues.
- Developing and implementing programs, policies, and procedures.
- Interpreting and applying department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Facilitating and resolving sensitive health, safety, and environmental questions and concerns.
- Working as a member of a management team.
- PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and other applicable applications.
- Communicating with co-workers to provide and receive direction.
