Hiscox UK is a leading brand in the insurance market, recognized for its expertise in underwriting Professional Indemnity, Cyber, Property, and Casualty lines. We are seeking a talented Mid-Market Underwriter to join our team and drive our profitable growth in the mid-market sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Secure new and existing high-value risks, providing top-tier underwriting for complex exposures in familiar risk categories.
  • Concentrate on high-value policies in the mid-market sector, maximizing Gross Written Premium (GWP) from significant risks in the UK.
  • Lead by example, influencing other underwriters and exerting a broader impact within your field of expertise at a national level.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Contribute significantly to growth through strategic underwriting in the mid-market sector.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, renowned for your underwriting expertise in Hiscox's established risk categories.
  • Lead underwriting and sales visits to key clients and prospects.
  • Possess deep knowledge of your area of specialization, including understanding sector trends and competitive dynamics.
  • Impart expertise through coaching and training, enhancing our mid-market capabilities.
  • Build and maintain strategic broker relationships, ensuring a robust market presence in the mid-market sector.
  • Influence underwriting and pricing strategies, aligning with Hiscox's expansion goals.

Our Must-Haves

  • An excellent understanding of UK retail business and underwriting larger, more complex risks.
  • In-depth expertise in your specialized field.
  • Excellent knowledge of the insurance market, industry, competitors, brokers, and factors that can affect the market, including soft/hard markets.
  • Ideal ACII qualification or exemption through relevant experience as defined by the FCA.
  • Excellent relationship management and sales skills.
  • Ability to lead by example in all professional activities.
  • Lead underwriting and sales visits to larger clients and prospects.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced underwriters in underwriting and sales skills.
