Job Title: Head Gardener

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Gardener to join our team at Gresgarth Hall Gardens. As a key member of our gardening team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the garden, working closely with the owner to develop and maintain the garden's unique aesthetic.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in private service gardening, with experience in managing a small team. You will be passionate about plants and have a deep understanding of horticultural practices. Your expertise will be essential in maintaining the garden's diverse range of horticultural aspects, including glasshouses, propagation, vegetable and fruit production, containers, perennials, woodland tree, shrub and woodland planting, meadow and wilder areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the garden, including team management and resource allocation
  • Develop and implement horticultural plans to maintain and improve the garden's aesthetic and biodiversity
  • Collaborate with the owner to develop and maintain the garden's unique style and character
  • Ensure the garden's facilities and equipment are well-maintained and up-to-date
  • Recruit, train, and develop a team of gardeners to support the garden's operations

Requirements

  • Proven experience in private service gardening, with a focus on team management and horticultural expertise
  • Strong understanding of horticultural practices and principles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for plants and a commitment to maintaining the garden's unique aesthetic
