Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Manager

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Manager to join our team at a leading international manufacturer in Birmingham. As a key member of our site management team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on health, safety, environmental, and compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage the site's integrated management system, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001, BS EN 15593, FSC, PEFC, MCERTs, and EPR Installation Permit requirements.
  2. Lead the Compliance department, including line management and mentoring of the Compliance Assistant.
  3. Develop and implement compliance-related systems and project work as required by the organization.
  4. Participate in the Duty Managers' rota, providing on-call support approximately 1 week in 8.
  5. Handle out-of-hours HSE and Compliance issues, ensuring timely resolution and communication to relevant stakeholders.
  6. Travel occasionally to attend group and external conferences and meetings.
  7. Communicate Compliance issues company-wide, including local plant and team briefings.
  8. Report sustainability, environmental, health, and safety statistics to relevant stakeholders.
  9. Provide expert advice to management and workforce on health, safety, environment, and compliance matters.
  10. Ensure systems are in place for risk assessments, including general work instructions, area risk assessments, Fire Risk Assessments, HAZOP, and Occupational Hygiene.
  11. Maintain accreditations to the standards mentioned above with a suitable organization and monitor performance.
  12. Promote the use of these systems and develop a Health, Safety, Environmental, and Compliance culture to achieve excellence.
Requirements:
  1. Previous experience in a similar role, with a good working knowledge of Environmental Permitting regulations, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and ISO 45001.
  2. NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Health and Safety or equivalent (or 5+ years' experience in a safety leadership role and a NEBOSH Certificate).
  3. Working knowledge of PUWER Regulations 1998 and Management Health Safety.
  4. Relevant work experience in manufacturing and/or heavy industry and construction.
