About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our team at Devonport Royal Dockyard. As a Mechanical Fitter, you will play a critical role in the maintenance and upkeep of the Royal Navy's fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and align new mechanical equipment, ensuring precise positioning and operational efficiency
- Work from engineering drawings and technical specifications, requiring attention to detail and analytical skills
- Conduct functional tests and surveys to verify system performance
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement efficient solutions
Essential Experience
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and work instructions
- Operating workshop machinery specific to mechanical fitting
- Experience working in the marine engineering industry, particularly on Royal Navy ships, submarines, or large commercial vessels
- Demonstrable experience of removing, installing, and overhauling marine mechanical equipment, with a focus on propulsion systems, auxiliary systems, and power generation equipment
Qualifications
- Completion of a time-served apprenticeship in marine or naval engineering
- An indentured apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
- A Level-3 Modern Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
- A Level-3 Mechanical Engineering qualification
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
