About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Estimator to join our London and East construction business. As a key member of our preconstruction team, you will be responsible for leading and delivering accurate build costs for our customers on high-value projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create robust and accurate cost plans to track the development of customer concepts through design gateways.
  • Lead the design team and customer in guiding affordability and identifying opportunities to add value.
  • Identify risks and offer workable solutions throughout the project process.
  • Actively seek to learn and extend construction knowledge and estimating skill set.
  • Cost alternative design solutions to suit customer budgets.
  • Develop a tender procurement strategy to meet project needs, ensuring a robust profit plan and supply chain engagement schedule.
  • Complete or manage project take-offs to the required level of detail.
  • Provide detailed cost information packages during substantiation.
  • Build and enhance relationships with the supply chain, nurturing existing and future partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure logistics, programmes, sequencing, and buildability activities are accounted for.
  • Review performance of supply chain partners with the site team.

Requirements

  • Successful delivery of tenders.
  • Experience with Conquest Estimating system or similar.
  • Taking off quantities up to SMM 7.
  • Controlling costs, timing, and quality in line with targets.
  • Managing a team.
  • Reading and accurately interpreting drawings and technical specifications.
  • Proactively liaising with customers.
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to add value throughout the project process.

Qualifications and Memberships

  • Good demonstrable standard of written and spoken English.
  • Good standard of mathematical ability.
  • Minimum relevant level 4 qualification (HNC / NVQ4 etc).
  • Relevant degree.
  • Appropriate CSCS card.
  • Working towards MCIOB / MRICS.
