We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a Guard. As a key member of our on-board service, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our customers and colleagues.
Main Responsibilities- Monitor and respond to safety risks and incidents on board the train.
- Provide exceptional customer service and ensure that all customers have a safe and enjoyable journey.
- Manage periods of disruption and communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
- Conduct regular safety checks and ensure that the train is in a safe and secure condition.
- Provide regular announcements and updates to customers on board the train.
- Manage the operational safety of the train, including customer boarding and alighting, dispatching from platforms, and maintaining safety on board.
- Be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
- Be able to multitask and work systematically in a team environment.
- Enjoy interacting with customers and colleagues and provide a high level of customer service.
- Be able to recognize and respond to changing safety and customer requirements.
- Maintain excellent focus and self-motivation for long periods of time.
- Be able to undertake manual handling activities and assist passengers with boarding and alighting the train.
The successful candidate will work a 37-hour week over 4.5 days, including a mixture of early and late shifts across 7 days.
Additional InformationWe have strict requirements around drugs and alcohol and you will need to pass a medical check to ensure your general health and eyesight are suitable for the role.
Travel time to the depot must not exceed 60 minutes and a car is preferred. You must be over 18 years old and have a minimum of 12 months on your visa at the time of appointment.
Successful candidates will undergo training in Basingstoke and will have free travel on SWR services. Please note that if you are successful at the screening stage, you will be invited to attend an assessment in Southampton.
The RewardThe salary for this role is £24,450 per annum, rising to £42,647 per annum after completion of training and a further 12 months fully qualified. You will also receive an annual regional allowance of £474 and 5% commission on ticket sales.
