About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Fitter to join our team at Finning, the largest CAT dealer in the UK and Ireland. As a Plant Fitter, you will be responsible for providing expert diagnostic and repair services for Caterpillar products, working closely with customers to understand their needs and resolve mechanical or electrical issues in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide estimates of arrival time at customer sites in response to service requests, based on job instructions from Branch.
- Contact customer site management to register arrival and presence on site, ensuring knowledge of customer procedures to adhere to site requirements.
- Diagnose the likely cause of reported equipment problems, discussing with customer operators/supervisors and using specialized equipment to provide customers with information for the work required.
- Identify parts required for repairs and requisition them, determining expected delivery times to agree on necessary service re-visits with customers.
- Undertake repair and service work on machines to agreed work plans, removing and dispatching components for specialist attention and re-installing the original or replacement to bring machines up to required standards.
Requirements
- Knowledge of field-based diagnosis tools and equipment essential.
- Heavy Earth Moving equipment operating knowledge.
- LDV driving license.
- Apprentice-trained engineer or formally trained (NVQ Level 3 preferred) with experience as a service engineer for a significant period or development opportunity for a qualified apprentice.
- Experience of a variety of construction and static machines essential.
