About the Role

The Financial Times has an exciting opportunity for aspiring sub-editors from the Black community. As a sub-editor trainee, you will play a crucial role in the final stages of news production, ensuring the accuracy and quality of our articles.

Key Responsibilities

You will assist in producing the newspaper by sub-editing articles for different editions, cutting them to length and writing headlines, standfirsts, and captions. You will also revise-edit content for FT.com, learning to hit accuracy and quality standards under tight time pressure.

In addition, you will learn to write engaging digital headlines and add visual components to engage readers. Your key skills and experience will include:

  • An interest in current affairs and financial news.
  • A commitment to accuracy and good grammar.
  • The ability to create attention-grabbing headlines, both in print and online.
  • Calmness and composure under deadline pressure.
What We Offer

This six-month contract offers a paid training opportunity in the FT's London newsroom. You will gain hands-on experience in news production, including sense-checking articles, editing for accuracy and clarity, and writing engaging headlines and display copy before publishing.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: £28,800 per annum (£2,400 per month)
