Special Education Teaching Assistant

Aspire People is seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to work with children with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties in a Primary School setting.
The ideal candidate will have Team Teach training or an equivalent restraint training qualification, which can be evidenced. Experience working with challenging behaviour is essential, and we welcome applications from candidates with experience in mainstream, specialist settings, prisons, outreach programmes, and youth work.
The role involves working with small classes of 7 pupils, alongside a SEND teacher and other learning support staff. The successful candidate will be required to move from 1:1 to small groups as the day progresses, adapting to the needs of the children.
The working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:30-16:00, term time only, with occasional twilight training sessions. The setting is a pupil referral unit (PRU) based in South Manchester, catering to pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2 with an Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP) identifying SEMH difficulties.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will be part of a dedicated team committed to the social and emotional well-being of each child. The PRU has recently been rated 'good' by Ofsted and is praised by parents for their dedication to each child's needs.
To be successful in this role, you must have a child and adult DBS registered on the update service, as well as an overseas police check if you have been out of the UK for more than 6 months within the last 5 years.
Aspire People is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and expects every candidate to share this commitment. Placements are subject to appropriate Child Protection screening, including checks with former employers and the Disclosure and Barring Checks.
