Social Emotional Mental Health Support Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a specialist provision for students with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs. As a key member of our support team, you will play a vital role in helping students overcome barriers to learning caused by anxiety, depression, and other emotional difficulties.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide individual and small group support to students who are struggling to engage in class, helping them find new ways to connect with their learning.
- Help students manage their emotions, teaching them practical coping strategies and resilience skills that they can apply both in and outside of school.
- Support students to develop their self-esteem and social skills, empowering them to participate more fully in school life and achieve their potential.
- Collaborate with teachers, the SEN/SEMH team, and external professionals to implement tailored support plans and interventions that help students stay on track.
- Foster a calm and nurturing environment where students feel safe to express themselves, ask for help, and work through their emotional and academic challenges.
- Regularly assess student wellbeing and progress, adapting your support to ensure each student is getting the best chance to succeed.
- A supportive environment with a team committed to SEMH support.
- Ongoing development opportunities, including regular training in mental health support and behaviour management strategies.
- The chance to make a genuine difference to students who are at risk of falling behind or becoming completely disengaged from education.
- Experience working with young people dealing with mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, or behavioural challenges.
- A compassionate, flexible approach with the ability to inspire and motivate students who may feel disconnected from their learning.
- Strong team player with the ability to collaborate with teachers, mental health professionals, and families.
- Relevant qualifications, such as Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or Mental Health First Aid, are a bonus but not essential.
