About the role

West Northamptonshire Council is seeking a skilled Assistant Financial Business Partner to join their Strategic Finance Team. As an Assistant Financial Business Partner, you will apply your accountancy skills and business acumen to support two busy finance teams. The successful candidate will be part-qualified or committed to studying towards a qualification, with significant financial experience working in a similar role. This position offers a flexible working arrangement, with two days spent in the office per week.

The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic and supportive department, helping to shape a highly performing finance function during a period of significant change for the council. Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Supporting budget holders in financial planning and budget modelling for different scenarios, advising on financial analysis for both revenue and capital income and expenditure.
  2. Working with budget holders to ensure accurate and timely budget monitoring, including risk appraisals.
  3. Assisting in the assessment of business case appraisals, including interpreting and analysing complex financial and non-financial information.
  4. Developing financial systems and processes to ensure robust governance and demonstrate best practice.
  5. Ensuring that services perform their duties and functions in fulfilment of their financial statutory obligations, keeping abreast of the Council's changing legal obligations, mandates, and responsible for ensuring relevant compliance with the Council's Financial Procedure Rules and SORPs.
  6. Delivering customer satisfaction levels to support the Finance Business Partner business plan and deliverables.
  7. Supporting the closedown of the accounts schedule, reviewing processes and timescales to enable deadlines to be met.
  8. Supporting the Council to deliver its strategies with an understanding and inputting into the analysis of changes to accounting and reporting requirements.
About you

You'll be either AAT Qualified (or recognised professional accounting qualification) or committed to studying and qualifying. Ongoing professional development will also be key to your success. We offer a range of benefits, including:
