Senior Legal Officer - Interim Opportunity

We are partnering with Doncaster Council to find a highly skilled Senior Legal Officer on an interim basis.

Job Type: Full-time, with flexible working arrangements in place

Length of Role: Initial 3 months, with potential for extension

Hourly Rate: £50-£55 per hour, dependent on experience, paid via an umbrella company, with a clear IR35 status

Location: Hybrid working arrangement

We are seeking a seasoned Legal Officer to provide expert legal support to the Council, focusing on Town and Country Planning and Highway Law matters. This role will be under the direction of the Principal Legal Officer and offers the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the Council's legal framework.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver high-quality legal advice and support in areas such as Town and Country Planning, Highway Law, and Compulsory Purchase.
  2. Provide timely and effective legal advice to the Council, its officers, and elected members in both written and oral formats.
  3. Handle planning inquiries and Judicial Review processes.
  4. Prepare strategic, local, and neighbourhood plans.
  5. Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with internal policies and procedures, including the effective use of case management and time recording systems.
Requirements:
  1. Proven experience in providing legal support within a local government setting.
  2. Specialized knowledge in Town and Country Planning, Highway Law, and Compulsory Purchase.
  3. Ability to draft complex legal documentation and provide sound legal advice.
  4. Experience in dealing with planning inquiries, Judicial Review, and advocacy before Courts or Tribunals.
  5. Competency in using case management and time recording systems.
